Re: Post height

A picture I took with my DSLR at the new house site. The black clouds tell me there is very little light pollution. When you have light pollution the clouds tend to be brown or orange.

Re: Skyshed

Looks great!

Where did you get the roller system for the roof?

I will definitely get one of those elevating piers.

Re: Post height

Thanks Mike, those are great discussion links.

One of my problems is I haven't actually purchased my final mounts so I have to make it generic.

I have pretty much put my hobby aside due to lack of time while I put in my last few years of work. Now I am preparing to retire and I am building my dream home at a good dark sky site in the interior of British Columbia, Canada. I am including a built in roll off roof observatory in the house desig...

Storage Question

Will leaving your scope on the mount for storage cause any damage to the mount?

Bots visiting

Interesting I have been on for about 15 minutes and in that time bots from Goggle, Bing and Yahoo have visited.

What do you suppose they are doing, cataloging new entries? How do they know what address to go to? Do they just get a list of registered domains and go through them all?

Re: Irresistable deal?

They still have it on sale. I didn't buy it but still think about it. I took Doug's suggestion and went in to try and lift the rig and it is very heavy. I am not that old but my knees are worn out from skiing etc so moving heavy stuff is not my favorite thing these days. http://www.thecamerastore.co...

Re: Irresistable deal?

Good point Doug, not exactly a grab and go scope! I would be using it primarily for visual observing. Isn't it possible to mount a camera on the front and reduce the focal length?

Irresistable deal?

A shop near me made and attempt to get into the telescope business and it didn't go well. They are selling off their floor models (original packaging included) so I have a chance to buy one of these for $3,700 CDN (~$2800 US). I am finding it very difficult to resist the temptation to just buy it wh...

From "The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows" vemödalen n. the frustration of photographing something amazing when thousands of identical photos already exist—the same sunset, the same waterfall, the same curve of a hi...

Re: How do you keep your gear organized?

Yeah I already made my first label - "labeler". I bought the qwerty version for $49, the Canadian dollar isn't doing so well. I looked at the "Fat Max" and had a question for you. Do you use it mostly for tools and hardware (screws, mounting plates, wires etc) or do you also store your cameras, eyep...

Great idea Doug I will pick one of those up tonight along with the Fat Max.

It looks like they still sell the QWERTY version:

Mount control software

Has anyone tried "Stellarium Scope" software.

For those using Eqmod did you need an interface device between the computer and the mount and if so did you buy or build the required interface?

Thanks

How do you keep your gear organized?

I have to admit I am not good at organization. Anyone care to share how they keep all the little bits and pieces organized? For example how do you store Dew Zapper bands, cables, eyepieces etc.....? Do you keep all the little boxes everything comes in and put everything away in it's box? Pictures of...
