Re: October 2009 AstroPhotography Contest

Doug,
I successfully replaced the image in My Gallery and in my submission post but was unable to insert the new image into the larger group above. Please do that for me when you get a chance. Thanks.

Re: October 2009 AstroPhotography Contest

Doug,
Thanks. I just realized that I accidentally entered the M31 image that I flipped before removing the annotation (annotation is backward). I will try to replace that with a clean one.

Re: October 2009 AstroPhotography Contest

Here is one of several successful images (for me) that I got last week at my Redshift Observatory near Cloudcroft, New Mexico. This first one is M31 (and M32 & M110) taken with my StarShoot Pro ver. 1 camera through my WO 110mm FLT f/7 (with 0.7 FR). I used MDLE for capturing and PHD to run my SSAG....

Re: May 2009 Imaging Contest

Great job, Mike. Congrats! My WO 110 is finally repaired - the dealer, OPT, replaced the focuser and I should have it back in action within the next few days (if the weather will cooperate).

Re: May 2009 Imaging Contest

Here are 3 entries (one full frame and one cropped of each). All were unguided since I have been having autoguider woes for some time now (it may finally be getting resolved, I hope). The first two were taken from my Redshift Observatory in New Mexico. The last one was taken at this year's Texas Sta...

I'm in. My wife also picked a different one than I picked but I haven't convinced her to join yet.

Re: Feburary 2009 Imaging Contest

Craig,
I really like that. That is a great rendition of the comet. I hope to get a chance at this comet before it gets out of reach and I would be proud of shots like that. Great job!

Re: Laptop Tent

Mike,
You're a life saver! When I am at star parties or imaging with my laptop outdoors where stray light can be a problem, something like this would be great. I too use a cardboard box which isn't all that great. I will look into getting one of these. Thanks for the tip.

Re: Feburary 2009 Imaging Contest

Well done, David. I like that M42. The extra exposure time and number of subs resulted in your capturing quite a bit of detail data. I really need to get over my reluctance to take longer subs and start trusting my autoguiding. Looks like a few decent nights ahead of us but going sour again by the w...

Re: Feburary 2009 Imaging Contest

Whoops. I noticed that my February submittal had vanished. The reason was that I had gone back later and done some more editing (added star spikes) and then changed the name. I have since re-pointed to my picture but it now has star spikes. Gimicky, I know....

Re: Feburary 2009 Imaging Contest

I like that one, David. Andromeda's such a great object. I haven't tried it with the SSPro yet. How many exposures and how long? I just got an IDAS-LPS filter which I haven't tried yet but I've heard it really helps with light pollution. Did you use any filters out there in Katy-land?

Re: Post A Pic of your Telescope Rig!

David,
Katy still has to be better than Missouri City - one would think so anyway since it is further west. Do you have a semi-dark site out that way? Still, we work with what we have....

Re: Feburary 2009 Imaging Contest

Thanks Doug. That's good to know. After hearing that you & others were using it and seeing your fantastic results, I ordered and just received last week an IDAS-LPS filter. I haven't had the opportunity to use it yet but will next outing. Will it cut through the thick gray clouds :darkcloud: that ar...

It's just fun to participate. I was way too cautious about my exposure lengths - I know that now. Thanks for the comments.

Re: Feburary 2009 Imaging Contest

Although it is a long way from being a good astro image, it is my first image with the Orion StarShoot Pro so I will submit it. The scope I used was a Williams Optics 110mm FLT f/7, autoguided with the Orion StarShoot AG on a Stellarvue 70ED. The whole rig was on a Vixen SXD mount. The image was tak...
