Thanks guys, is the noise reduction on this image better? My eyes are playing tricks on me and I am having difficulties evaluating my own images.

LBN581 in Ha

http://astrob.in/328907/0/rawthumb/gallery/get.jpg?insecure I am still learning the fundamentals of image processing and now I am trying to get a grip on noise reduction. This image of LBN581 is a stack of 60x120s Ha subs taken with my ASI1600 and Baader filter. There are probably several things wr...

NGC281

NGC281 taken with my ASI1600, Baader narrowband filters. Weather cut short my imaging evening, so I only got 20x180s Ha and 15x180s OIII. Still learning how to process my images, this image processed with Astro Pixel Processor in combination with PixInsight and finished with PhotoPad. I would really...

Quick process of 30x180s Ha and 15x180s OIII, gain 200/50. Playing with color combos. Had to cut my session short due to clouds arriving just as I was getting some good subs. Not satisfies with guiding, think it was sloppy PA. This is my second attempt at processing with APP, still not sure which pr...

Re: NGC7635 - First narrowband image

Thank you guys. Yes this is my very first narrowband, I was probably lucky to get such an image on first try. I am not completely satisfied with my processing, I try the SHO palette and see if I like that better.

NGC7635 - First narrowband image

Finally had some clear skies so I got to try my new Baader narrowband Ha, OIII and SII filters. I got 50 120s of Ha and OIII but the clouds started rolling in and reduced my SII to only 25 120s exposures. Wind was a problem so guiding was a bit iffy. I am still learning about the ASI1600 so I am not...

Re: Understanding “Dark Flats”

In my case of the last 2 images, I use extreme dithering and settle at 1.0 pixels and without darks the image has less noise. This is something I have to try, how does this effect the total imaging time? I live in an area where the weather gives me only short periods of clear skies, so total time i...

Understanding “Dark Flats”

Trying to get a better grip on calibration files and want to understand “Dark Flats” and how they work. I understand that they should be taken with cap on at the same temp, gain and exposure as normal flats. But what about filters, my flats are taken with different exposures depending on filter choi...

Re: Tulip Nebula, processing questionable.

Thanks guys, very good feedback. I will try using your suggestions to get a better image with the subs I have while I wait for clear skies . Next clear skies I’ll try will lower gain and see what I get from that. The whole subject of gain and offset is very confusing, many different ad conflicting o...

Re: Tulip Nebula, processing questionable.

Try using the color mask script on the image and make a mask for each color and stretch them individually. ........That will give you much better control over the Tulip and all your other images. I will have to try using the color mask script, just have to learn how to use it. Still working mostly ...

Tulip Nebula, processing questionable.

Finally got a couple of hours of imaging in. Tulip Nebula 10 each of RGB x 180s at unity, 15 Lum and 10 Ha. I am trying to learn PixInsight but I keep coming up short, I either go too far or not far enough. I am probably pushing my subs to far on this one. Does anyone have any easy to follow turoria...
