It's been a while since I posted an image but I caught a very nice solar prominence last weekend and thought I would share it. The photo is cropped to show most of the western limb (north is more or less up). I over-exposed the surface detail a bit to help bring out details and contrast in the proms. This was taken with my 80mm Ha solar scope (double stacked tuning) and a PointGrey Grasshopper 3.0 camera on an iOptron EQ45 mount. I added a Baader Neodymium Skyglow filter to improve contrast (first time to try that). I also used a Hutech Solar Guider for the first time. This is an auto-guider which uses the sun's disk to adjust the mount's tracking. Seems to work pretty good. The image is the result of the best 20% of 1000 frames stacked using Autostakkert!2. Sharpening was done with Astra Image 3.0. Most of the post-processing was done in Photoshop CS6. The link below will direct you to a higher resolution version of the same image.

This is a different version of the previous solar image. I cropped it differently to show more of the disk and then blackened the solar disk (in Photoshop) to make the prominences stand out more. A little more dramatic and revealing maybe. Same capture and processing method was used - 80mm Ha solar scope (double stacked tuning) and a PointGrey Grasshopper 3.0 camera on an iOptron EQ45 mount (Hutech guided). The image is the result of the best 20% of 1000 frames stacked using Autostakkert!2. Astra Image 3.0 and Photoshop CS6 were used for most of the post-processing. The link below will direct you to a higher resolution version of the same image.

Thanks, Doug. I haven't been to my New Mexico observatory in months and the weather in the Houston area has been pretty poor. I will go to New Mexico at the end of this month and hope to do some deep sky work.

I posted this pic a bit late on last months, but here goes again. My Blood moon shot from April. Taken in Colorado.

The second is my shot of the galaxy M81. 28 mins of data shot at 1600 ISO unguided

The Third is my M106 and friends.
