M81/82 WorkInProgress

Post by DkN » Wed Mar 02, 2016 8:03 pm

So I had 3 better than bad weather nights but that was accompanied with at least some hours of bright moonlite. I will say the Moonlite Stepper performed flawless, better than the indoors testing. It always connected and the SGPro focus routine is not only brilliantly simple but it was also flawless. So just for that this is a successful image. I focused on Blue when this target was near to past zenith then went green red then Lum each night. I did have guiding drop early AM on 2 nights. And that is when the Lum was scheduled. SO this image is WIP because it is lacking enough L to smooth the color noise out. I could not stretch the L enough without really bringing out the black speckles in the background. The bright moon has to had something to due with that also. But I am happy with the color. There is only 2.4 hours of L and 12.5 hours of RGB color. Now the easy part is getting more L next time. I am gong to need about 9 hours of L so a whole night will finish this. Posted so you can see what an unbalanced image can look like. But if you notice the red and organce ejectant from M82. I was even able to get the purple Halpha in M81.

Jeff, did you check out Chris' video? This talks about processing the exact same galaxies. You may be able to pick up a few pointers. I like how Chris treated/processed each galaxy on its own merits.
