More winter galaxies: M61, NGC4565, and NGC3495

Post by cgome004 » Tue Apr 12, 2016 7:44 pm

Its now spring time and the skies managed to cooperate this weekend as I continue finishing up my galaxy season. I will probably manage a few more galaxies but as summer is coming around the corner, I will shift to targeting the beautiful nebula and star clusters in our galaxy. Pictured in the links are some popular galactic targets,

M61: http://www.astrobin.com/full/244401/0/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

and

NGC4565: http://www.astrobin.com/full/244558/0/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

also included is NGC4395: http://www.astrobin.com/full/244981/0/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I was hesitant about spending all night with this particular target being that it is low surface brightness spiral galaxy and I was not so sure of what I was going to get. My 300sec subs were not showing anything but I said what the heck lets just try it. I have to say I am happy with the results and I am glad to add this not so popular galaxy to my collection of astrophotos!

Enjoy

Very nice Chris, very nice. I see that you use the Orion 8" Astrograph. I'm in the market for another scope, whats your overall impression of the Orion 8"?

I really like this scope! It is a fast f3.9 ant at 8" has great light gathering capacity. I usually shoot 300 sec exposures and gather plenty of data 3 hours and for awesome data I aim for 4 hours of total integration. With my DSLR this cope has a great well rounded field of view at 800mm focal length for the majority of your deep sky targets. You will need to use a coma corrector for it and I currently use a Baader Mark III MPCC with it. The only thing is that this particular coma corrector does not fully correct the coma for this scope but it you can learn to live with a tad bit of coma at the edges, you will be fine. You can go to my astrobin (http://www.astrobin.com/users/cgome004/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) and look at the images in full resolution to see what I am talking about. If you wanted to pair the scope with a great coma corrector, you would go with the TeleVue Paracorr. I have heard great results and coma correction with it. Otherwise this cope has been very good to me and it all came at a fair price

I've said it before, I'll say it again, you produce my favorite backgrounds and star colors. That's not to say your targets are slouches, they are great also. Not sure why I admire that shade or grey so much. Maybe because its how I envision being in space would look. And the vivid, high saturation on the stars is stunning without the blue cast I tend to get on the young suns.

Great additions to your library of images, congrats.
