Plate Solving Woes

Post by h2opolo » Fri May 26, 2017 4:17 pm

For those that are using plate solving in sgp what service are you using to solve with. I'm using platesolver 2 with ADM and UCCA3 and it's all but worthless.

It takes forever for it to solve a simple photo of M51. I cannot sit out there at 2am and try to center on a target to do a meridian flip and wait 10 minutes for the stupid thing to fail.

I can get it to solve in a minute or two if I use blind solve but that does me no good while imaging because it's not an option in the plate solve module.

Right now it is set for Max Regions and it tries to use UCCA3 for the first solve and then I guess it jumps over to ADM to try and solve there if it cannot get it in the first set of files.

In my opinion SGP is worthless without the plate solving piece. Sure, it houses all your stuff under one roof which is nice but it is the plate solving and the Frame and Mosaic that make it a stellar program.

Do any of you have any ideas on how to speed this thing up and make it work or do I need to use the other services that cost money?

The cost is not an issue. I just need it to work and not take 10 minutes to come back with "solve failed"

Ideas Please?

Yeah I have that too. The problems that I am having seem to be a problem for those folks too. I think its an issue with my computer and my file structure. The log files show that it is having some trouble finding certain files. I posted the file on the forum for sgp and I will let those guys dissect it and get with me.

I would love to know how to integrate APT with astrotortilla with cartes or stellarium and my celestron mount. But I can never find a definitive how to post on what to do to make it work.
