I've never used a UHC filter. From what I've read it brings out faint details... But... What I saw was for visual use. I'm sure there has to be photography benefits too. I'm interested in why you selected UHC filters, I want to learn more!

Supposed to make your images better in light polluted areas. And the UHC filter has great reviews but not sure what size to get for my scope.

Wouldn't you purchase for your camera? Is your celestron 8300 color ccd? Wow, there's a ton of choices. I would think it would be a 2" model for your camera, but they have different TPI too. I think it's worth an email or phone call to verify which filter fits your camera or extension. If it's 2" it's got to screw into something!!

I just saw your chain question with ir filter too. Connect on to extension and one to camera. Often extensions have an adapter for filters too.

Agena astro has all kinds of adapters to help put it together.

I have a QHY9M it has the 8300 chip also and definitely needs 2" filter. I tried with 1.25" but it did not work well at all. Way to much vignetting. I used the 2" and all was good. I still am trying different filters with my DSLR OSC. Lots of info and lots of choices. Still have not found the right one for me yet.

Nick, do you have any filters now? What I was thinking you could do is try another filter...get the specs of the filter threads...and then order with confidence. If you don't have a filter to try now, make the call to the seller, and have them tell you which one fits your camera, then you will not be hung out there for a return/handling charge if it doesn't fit.

Thanks everyone. I looked at everything and it seems like, based on your help, that its the M48 2 inch one. Will shop around and see but thinking IR block and UHC combo would suit me. Its so far to the dark site, and sometimes have issues and drive all the way out there for nothing. so would be nice to have something that would allow me to shoot in the city, or at least help it.

I have a 2" Baader UHC-S that i used to use with my DSLR. It seems to give everything a red/pinkish cast with a one shot.

They are for visual, but with IR block filter they work well with CCD chips. You can see comparison images on the google. sup RV btw :)
