RGB Star integration into narrowband images

Post by Rudeviewer » Fri Dec 09, 2016 3:43 pm

Hey i just wanted to give out a quick pointer that i learned a rough version of today. Integrating RGB stars into your narrow-band image with Photoshop.

First you will have your narrow-band image and your RGB star image that you want to use aligned with each other. Then you stretch the RGB image to roughly match the star size of the narrow-band image. Simple......now save both to tiff and bring into Photoshop. Copy and paste the RGB star image onto your narrow-band image and choose the mode lighten. It should keep most of the nebula from showing through and only let your stars come though. Use the slider to your liking...I learned this from a SGL user today.

I am sure it can be done better than what i have shown since i didn't use any other masking techniques to make it not appear darker, but here is what i have done. The first image is without the RGB Stars, second one is with the stars placed into it.

That is a really nice difference. I wonder if the same effect could be made with adding just Ha to rgb? I have a couple sets of Ha rgb and Ha lrgb, it will be interesting to try.

That's what I was trying to do with my Pacman but the red channel was unusable. Having true color stars makes the image look more natural to my eye. Nice job also I like the palette your working with here.
