Mini observatory

Post by Ken_nneth » Thu Mar 08, 2018 2:25 am

Finishing up my mini observatory, I’m tired of carrying everything out just to have the skies cloud over. This is a light weight plywood shell that will be screwed to the deck where my pier comes through. It hinges completely over (180). I am building an internal box to house my pc and power supply and hoping to figure out a system for reducing all the cables. Any ideas?

Not sure on your power but line it with solar radiation insulation. Its only 1/4" thick and will protect from sun and heat that goes through even the plywood. I am using this type in 100ft rolls.

When it was in my plastic dome it was 114° outside, 118° in the dome, and the shed behind the dome without it was 138°!!! It really works.

Thanks Gardenfish
Where I live high temps are no problem. I will be moving my equipment inside from May to September because I loose dark skies to the midnight sun. My season runs from the middle of September to the end of April.

The insulation is more for suns radiation damage than heat protection. Maybe not as severe where you are but here things deteriorate even if covered so the solar insulation really helps. It is the same type of insulation that is inside the "365 Telescope covers".
