Here is a pretty cool free site that you enter your location in and it gives you all the targets that are visible that night.

Hey I tried this site last night and used it along with stellarium. If you have not looked at it it's well worth your time. You can search for types of targets and then look over at the window to the right and see it's path and degree's it will be in and in what sky.

I wrote about 10 down during the day and then used setallarium out in the field to locate them and verify them.

It was really helpful. The only thing I found wrong was the listing on the magnitude of the target. Stellarium's were different. I trust stellarium more for that information but all in all it is a great tool for planning your shots.
