Mod my D5200

Post by Craig » Sat May 19, 2018 12:18 pm

This is for gardenfish mainly but was wondering if doing a full spectrum mod on your D5200 was worth it. I heard it may cause major amp glow. I’m wanting more out of my pictures but don’t have a ton of disposable cash $$$ what’s your thoughts ?

I think it was worth it. The amp glow can be helped in processing and I bought the IR and B/W filter from LifePixel for taking daylight pics. It is awesome to play with. Have not figured out the white balance totally yet but not really spent a lot of time on it yet.

I chose it for modding because I already had it and did not have money for another camera.

I really did not do too much astrophotography with it as I ended up getting a ccd camera anf filters and I do mostly ccd pics now. I probably will not use the Modded 5200 for astro much except for in the future I plan to try it on the 16" dob in video mode for planetary pics. I am not sure how it will work there until I try it. I do love the 24mp sensor as it allows a lot of cropping if needed and still looks good.

Not much help but its all I know :11:

Lol well I’m in the same boat can’t afford a ccd camera at this time so maybe I’ll get it modded. Good time of year to be without my camera not much dark time this time of year.

Thanks

So i wouldn't recommend modifying a Nikon D5200 the amp glow is horrendous. Wishing now that i didn't modify. Lesson learned now I'll have to save up for a CCD camera.
