New telescope

Heya lads!

I have somewhat recovered from my last purchase.

I can finally invest in a new telescope.

Since my mount can take a lot of weight, My eyes were set on the skywatcher 300 PDS or the explore scientific 208 mak newton.

I do not know whether to choose between a newtonian, maksutov or a refractor.

I was hoping somebody could shed some light for me on this ;)

Re: New telescope

Well first thing is what are you going to use it for? Photography? Viewing? Both? I have had 6 different refractors and an AT8RC. I also had a 12" goto Dob and now a 16" goto Dob.

For what I like to look at and take pics of the 60mm-120mm-152mm show me most what I need for clusters and other deep space objects. The 8"RC was nice for galaxy pics but I had more fun with the refractors for pics and moon viewing so I sold it.

For Planetary viewing and really close up viewing of the moon I love the 16"Dob.

So for me I am decidedly a refractor person for pics and viewing deep space and I have the big 16" for planet viewing.

Have fun choosing your new toy. Well new toy's as you cannot have just one :smile111:

Re: New telescope

I will primarily use it for photography, i already have a fancy mount and was thinking of a 190mm mak-newton from skywatcher.
