The Lagoon Nebula (NGC 6523) is estimated to be about 5,000 light-years from the Earth. At its centre are hot stars that emanate ultraviolet light that are bombarding the gases on the surface of the nebula. This ionising radiation heats up and 'evaporates' the surfaces of the clouds (seen as a blue mist). One of the features of the Lagoon Nebula is the presence of dark globules, each about 1.5 billion km across. These are collapsing clouds of dust where new stars are being created.

Hi h2o2polo,

I Googled “bicolour” and my old friend Keyron Mercier came up with an explanation.

http://www.lightvortexastronomy.com/tut ... tions.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

No, I didn’t use bi-colour. I used three narrow-band filters, Ha, SII and OIII. I combined them in PixelMath:

Channel R/K: SII+(0.8*Ha)
Channel Green: (0.075*Ha)+OIII
Channel Blue: OIII

I hope this explains everything, Terry.

Well anyway nice win tc I really liked your shot. I tried your pixel math on one of mine but did not like how it came out. I may try on some other to see. I relly liked your processing on this one.

I too voted - two votes is truly disappointing. Only thing that I can think of is site issues possibly not tallying votes?
